Dr. Peggy Honoré and other Public Health Leaders pay Tribute of Dr. Lloyd Novick
October 22, 2025
The field of public health lost a giant in August 2025. Lloyd Novick, MD, MPH was a respected public health trailblazer. He graduated from Colgate University, NYU School of Medicine, and Yale University School of Public Health. He was an avid lifelong sailor participating in races in upstate New York, North Carolina, and Connecticut. He was committed to public health, serving as Commissioner of Health and later Secretary for Human Services of Vermont, Director of Health Services for Arizona, and Director of the Office of Public Health for New York. He was Chair of Epidemiology at the SUNY School of Public Health in Albany, and later Chair of the Department of Public Health at the Brody School of Medicine of East Carolina University. He authored more than 100 scientific articles in this field and six books. He was the founding editor of the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice, the leading publication of public health practice, and continued as Editor-in-Chief for more than 30 years.
Several close associates were solicited to provide Commentaries and Tributes to Dr. Novick to document his legacy in the field of public health over his 30-year career. LSUHSC-NO Professor Dr. Peggy Honoré responded to that request with a Commentary titled Public Health Finance Contributions to the Legacy of Dr. Lloyd Novick that is available at the link here.
