LSUHSC Research Featured on EurekAlert! for Study on Deepwater Horizon Spill's Lasting Impact on Children

A study involving LSU Health Sciences Center researchers Evrim Oral, PhD, and Katie Sternberger, MS, was recently featured on EurekAlert!

The work grew out of Katie’s MS thesis at LSUHSC, with Dr. Oral leading the statistical analysis and Katie playing a central role in developing the research into the published manuscript. The study examined how mothers’ exposure to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill may be indirectly associated with their children’s mental health through financial and social resource loss.

The study was published in PLOS One in June 2026.
