Announcements:

Read about ways public health is core to the country of Haiti and the Haitian people.  The Association of School of Public Health's Friday Letter this week features the response from schools of public health around the country and reputable organizations involved in the response.  http://www.asph.org/document.cfm?Page=1141

Find Lauren Cole's article, Septicemia Louisiana, 1999 to 2007 in the September/October 2009 issue of the Louisiana Morbidity Report.  Ms. Cole is a master of public health candidate in epidemiology.  She conducted her work for the article as part of her practice placement with the Louisiana Office of Public Health, Infectious Disease Epidemiology section. Congratulations to Dr. Richard A. Scribner, who has been appointed as chairperson of the National Institute of Health - Community Influence on Health Behavior Study Section, Center for Scientific Review. This is not only noteworthy as a professional achievement and contribution, but also of great importance as Dr. Scribner is recognized for his importance in participating in assuring the quality of the NIH peer review process in scientific research nationally.

Alumnus Maria Cecilia Mosquera, MD, MPH in ENHS (LSUHSC), is now serving on the EIS Swine Flu Investigation Team studying the largest US outbreak to date in NYC. See report.
