Congratulations to Dr. Richard A. Scribner, who has been appointed as chairperson of the National Institute of Health - Community Influence on Health Behavior Study Section, Center for Scientific Review. This is not only noteworthy as a professional achievement and contribution, but also of great importance as Dr. Scribner is recognized for his importance in participating in assuring the quality of the NIH peer review process in scientific research nationally.

Alumnus Maria Cecilia Mosquera, MD, MPH in ENHS (LSUHSC), is now serving on the EIS Swine Flu Investigation Team studying the largest US outbreak to date in NYC. See report.

Students, faculty and staff attended the 2nd Annual LSU School of Public Health Capstone Day on May 8, 2009. Twenty-two graduating students participated in the event which featured 14 posters and four oral presentations. Special recognition in the poster session went to Jonathan Robert Howe, Hip-Hop 2 Health: A Dance Program Targeting Overweight & Obese Adolescents & Young Adults; Sarah Anne Lynch, Prospect Health: A behavioral Initiative in the Promotion of Childhood Cancer Survivor Health; and Maeghan Alisha Davis, Relationship Power in MSM Relationships. In the oral category, Tyra Nadair Toston received special recognition for her presentation, Centering Pregnancy in Louisiana: Findings from a Descriptive Study.

Elizabeth T. H. (Terry) Fontham, Dean of the LSU School of Public Health, makes history - first non-physician elected national President of the American Cancer Society. Read more, 1, 2.
