Nonparametric Statistics on Size-and-Shape Manifolds and 3D Protein Data Analysis Recently developed data analysis on 3D size-and-shape manifolds via multidimensional scaling (MDS) techniques are relevant in Bioinformatics and Medical Imaging. In this talk, after an introduction to extrinsic means on manifolds, we derive the connection between MDS and 3D mean size-and-shape analysis, and show some computational results for X-Ray crystallography protein data. This is joint work with Jinfeng Zhang and Jing Su.
