1931 Department of Public Health established in LSU School of Medicine
1930’s – 1980’s Department of Public Health makes notable contributions to the field of public health in the areas of malaria, polio and other endemic infections in the South.
1994 Department of Public Health reactivated as Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine
3/29/96 MPH Degree Program Proposed to LSU Board of Supervisors and Board of Regents for the state of Louisiana
3/26/97 MPH Program Approved by LSU Board of Supervisors and the Board of Regents for Higher Education for the state of Louisiana
5/99 Graduation of first MPH Class
3/27/03 Louisiana Board of Regents Approves LSU HSC School of Public Health (SPH)
5/29/03 MPH Program Accredited by Council for Education in Public Health
7/1/03 LSU SPH begins operations at 1600 Canal St on the LSU HSC downtown campus
11/17/03 School of Public Health approved as an Associate Member of the Association of Schools of Public Health
Fall 2004 New MPH concentrations began in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Environmental/ Occupational Health Sciences
  The Community Preventive Medicine MPH was opened to health care professionals (i.e., MD, DDS, DSN, DVM)
Fall 2005 New MPH concentrations offered in Behavioral/Community Health Sciences and Health Policy/ Systems Management.
2007 and/or 2008 Doctoral programs will be offered in Biostatistics,  Epidemiology and Behavior and Community Health Sciences subject to approval by Board of Regents for Higher Education for the State of Louisiana
