1931 Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health established in LSU School of Medicine
1931 – 1988 Department of Public Health makes notable contributions to the field of public health in the areas of malaria, polio and other endemic infections in the South.
1994 Department of Public Health reactivated as Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine
3/29/96 MPH Degree Program Proposed to LSU Board of Supervisors and Board of Regents for the state of Louisiana
3/26/97 MPH Program Approved by LSU Board of Supervisors and the Board of Regents for Higher Education for the state of Louisiana
5/99 Graduation of first MPH Class
3/27/03 Louisiana Board of Regents Approves LSU HSC School of Public Health (SPH)
5/29/03 MPH Program Accredited by Council for Education in Public Health
7/1/03 LSU SPH begins operations at 1615 Poydras St on the LSU HSC downtown campus
11/17/03 School of Public Health approved as an Associate Member of the Association of Schools of Public Health
Fall 2004 New MPH concentrations began in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Environmental/ Occupational Health Sciences
Fall 2005 New MPH concentrations offered in Behavioral/Community Health Sciences and Health Policy/ Systems Management.
Fall 2008 New PhD program in Biostatistics began.

Fall 2010 New PhD program in Epidemiology offered.

Fall 2011 New PhD program in Community Health Sciences initiated.
